About the race
Despite the name, the Peña El Botijo 'Marathon' is not a marathon but an evening race of about 10 km, organised by the Peña El Botijo club with Hoyo de Manzanares town council on 4 September every year, whatever day of the week it falls on. In 2026 it reached its 47th edition.
The start and finish are at the Las Eras municipal sports centre. The course mixes tracks and tarmac around the municipality and is run in laps: three for the senior (16-34) and master A (35-49) categories, the only ones that cover the full distance; two for under-16s and master B (50 and over); and one for under-14s. In 2026 the three laps came to about 9.8 km, and in 2025 to about 11 km. There is a drinks station halfway round the course and another at the finish.
It is a cheap, neighbourly event: entry in 2026 was €5 including a shirt, and in 2025 it was free. Before the main race, which starts at 18:30, children as young as 4 have their own races. In 2026, 69 runners completed the three laps.

Interurban buses 611 and 611A from the Moncloa interchange in Madrid. Hoyo de Manzanares has no Cercanías station; the nearest are Torrelodones and Las Matas (lines C-8 and C-10).
