About the race
The Galapagar San Silvestre is run every 31 December and is one of the oldest year-end races in the Madrid region: 2025 marked its 47th edition. Organised by the Ayuntamiento de Galapagar, it is the town's biggest sporting event, drawing more than 1,400 participants across all races last time.
The main event is a 10 km circuit that starts and finishes at the Velódromo Municipal Tasio Greciano. It winds through the old town (Plaza del Caño, Plaza de Colón, Avenida de los Voluntarios) before heading out towards the Colada Charco de la Hoya and Camino del Barrizal, where tarmac gives way to a few unpaved stretches, and then back to the sports ground. There is also a 5 km course, with a version adapted for people with reduced mobility, plus children's races earlier in the morning.
It is a community race for every level, with a 90-minute cut-off for the 10K, a T-shirt for every entrant and a prize draw. It has a charitable and inclusive streak: €1 from every bib goes to a cause chosen by the town hall (Fundación Bobath in 2025), and people with disabilities pay half price.
