About the race
The San Silvestre de Buitrago del Lozoya is the town's way of seeing out the year. It is organised by the Ayuntamiento de Buitrago del Lozoya with support from Club Trinorte, which handles entries and publishes the results. The 18th edition in December 2025 drew more than 200 athletes, according to the organisers.
The race starts in Plaza de Picasso and finishes in Plaza de la Constitución. The course mixes the cobbled streets of the historic centre with a flat, fast stretch beside the Riosequillo reservoir. Although the poster bills it as a 10K, the rules describe it as about 9 km, and the organisers' 2025 report measured 9.1 km with 108 m of climbing.
It is a community race open to anyone with a bit of running fitness. There is also a 4 km walk, where under-18s must be accompanied by an adult, and free children's races before the main event. You can still enter on the day in Plaza de Picasso, and trophies go to the top three in each category and to the first local man and woman from Buitrago.

Non-residents may not drive or park inside the walled town. The town hall lists several free parking areas: the municipal car park (entrances on Calle Tahona and Calle Real, about 65 spaces), Plaza del Belén Viviente, Calle Fuente de Arriba, the cemetery road and Calle Puente Nuevo, among others.

ALSA bus 191 from the Plaza de Castilla interchange in Madrid to Buitrago del Lozoya.
