About the race
The Trail Carrera del Gallo is the mountain race organised by the Garganta de los Montes town council, in the middle Lozoya valley. It takes place on a Saturday in May to round off the village fiestas, with two chip-timed courses.
The long course, 10 km, mixes dirt tracks and footpaths and climbs about 300 m in total; the organisers call it technical. There is one aid station on the course with fruit, water and sweets, but no bottles are handed out, so bring a collapsible cup or your own hydration system. The alternative is a 5K beginners' trail with only 85 m of climbing.
The entry fee covers a technical T-shirt, timing, a finish-line video and a barbecue for all runners at the end. Trophies go to the top men and women over each distance.

ALSA intercity buses from Madrid (Plaza de Castilla interchange): lines 194 (Madrid – Rascafría) and 195 (Madrid – Braojos) serve Garganta de los Montes, though not every trip stops in the village. Check timetables at crtm.es.
